Darrin has lived and sold real estate east of the Anacostia River since 2002. He conducts a Homeowner's Walking Tour of the area every Spring & Fall. The tour showcases housing opportunities that are available in Wards 7 and 8 of Washington, DC to potential residents. In 2009, he formed the highly successful Anacostia River Realty Homebuyer's Club. The group meets once a month, locally, to discuss different aspects of the home buying process. The group's online membership boasts over 700 members world-wide.
He is a vocal and active member of his community. He was recognized by Washington, DC's former mayor, Anthony Williams, as Main Street Anacostia's Volunteer of the year in 2004. He is affiliated with R.E.E.L. (River East Emerging Leaders), a member of Main Street Anacostia, a board member of the Anacostia Coordinating Committee, and a member of Ward 8 Democrats. He also currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Washington, DC Chapter of the Washington Real Estate Broker's Association and Ward 7 Business and Professional Association.
Having attended Howard University, education has played a great part in Darrin's success. He has held a District of Columbia Substitute Teaching license since 1999. Each month he gives back to his community by mentoring students at two of the District of Columbia's Public Schools; Anacostia's Benjamin Orr Elementary and Capitol Hill's Maury Elementary. He has also been tapped to serve on the founding Board of Director's for Washington, DC's Public Charter School, Bertha B. Williams Academy.
Darrin took a break from Real Estate in late 2007 and 2008 to become politically active in the Democratic Party. He worked for both U.S. Presidential Democratic candidates, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. He spent the summer of 2008 in Alaska working on a winning U.S. Senate race.
Inspired by Secretary of State Clinton's superior work ethic and President Obama's historic win, Darrin returned to Washington after the November 2008 presidential election and fulfilled a long held dream of opening his own realty company.
